AGED PIONEER DEAD
John Long Dies at the County Poor House at the Ripe Old Age of 93
John Long passed away at the county poor farm at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was born in Ireland 93 years ago and came here in the early days, working for many years on the river. He is survived by a wife, Mrs. Hannah Long of Rural street, from whom he had been separated for some years.
"Johnnie" Long had a remarkably strong constitution. He continued work at the C. L. & B. Co's sorting gap until he was 70 years old and was very active for a man at that age and he had an excellent memory. Until he took sick last fall he made frequent trips to the city unaccompanied.
He was an uncle of Mrs. John Finley of Eagle Point, Mrs. Dugal and John Long, Jr.
