Dear (private):

It is with deep regret that I will be unable to attend the celebration honoring your late father and my dear friend, Senator Dave Manning.

I am personally delighted that this recognition is being given in remembrance of his many contributions to a better Montana and to a better country. Modest, unassuming, understanding were his hallmarks and his example as a legislator in the Montana State House for over 50 years and was the objective which many of us sought but few were able to achieve. His diligence, patriotism and knowledge have meant much to our state, and he will always be remembered for what he was able to accomplish. He was a man who always kept his word and always lived up to his promises.

Would there there more like him.

With my best personal wishes for your continued good health and happiness, I am

Sincerely,

Mike Mansfield
