|We have been honored to receive a photograph of Shanrahan Cemetery from renowned photographer and Clogheen resident George Lambert, who also took the photos of the swans and Bay Lough elsewhere on the site and on the next page.
Shanrahan Cemetery is where several Hogans are buried, including a Patrick Hogan b. 1707. His gravestone reads as follows:
"Erected by James Hogan in memory of his father, Patrick Hogan, who died September 1781, aged 73 years. Also his mother, Catherine Hogan alias Burk, who departed Feb. 7, 1774, aged 50 years. Also his wife, Ellen Hogan alias Harney, died May the 1st, 1801, 46 years."
Another gravestone nearby reads: "Erected by Michael Hogan, Shanrahan, in memory of his father, Cornelius Hogan, who departed this life April 1, 1871, aged 56 years. Michael Hogan, died 25th March, 1912, aged 66 years. His wife, Mary, died Jan 1st, 1926, aged 74 years. Their son James, who died in France, 9th Oct., 1917, aged 24 years. Their daughter Margaret Daly, died 9th Feb., 1937, aged 48 years. Jesus have mercy on them." Lord Cornelius O'Callaghen and Father Nicholas Sheehy are also buried in nearby graves.
